This barrette is from my "wood pile" collection. I was ready to throw a piece of maple into the woodburner in my shop when I noticed the spalt. I cut it open and found this wonderful black fungal line that just had to be made into a barrette. Signed with French Auto-Lock Clip.

Lace Sheoak and Ebony #164
Lace Sheoak is a very rare Australian timber that the grain structure is thought to have mutated into a swirling lace patten due to damage from a forest fire. Less than 2000lbs of this very cool wood are found each year and I was fortunate enough to put my hands on a large amount a few years ago.
As with all my work, it is signed on the back and a French Auto-Lock clip is used.

Pink Ivory #165
Pink Ivory is native to Africa. This fabulous pink wood is sacred to the Zulu tribe. Only a Zulu chief or his son may harvest the tree or give permission to cut it down by leaving his ax mark on a specific tree. Pink Ivory has been described as being "rarer than diamonds". An accent strip of Ebony and Birds Eye Maple runs down the center of this barrette.
