In my work, I'll combine very rare and expensive woods with semi-precious elements such as turquoise and lapis. Precious metals also find their way into many pieces in the way of inlay. I don't speak the "artist language", but I'll describe the finished accessories as organic and very contemporary functional sculpture.
I spent the better part of the summer comparing my exotic wooden bangles and purses to the pieces that are produced by the "big name" designers. I believe that my bangles are "off the charts" and totally cool! I believe that if I could get one in somebody's hands, or on their wrist in this case, they would sell themselves.
Everything that leaves my studio is handmade and signed or it does not leave, period! There is no mass production here. In some cases, I will craft a numbered series of an item. My Karri burl bangles with turquoise inlay ( a series of 9) are a fine example of this. I have made a few bangles with onyx, rose quartz, and other cabachons encircling the bracelet.
The only thing that gives me more satisfaction than making the things that I make, is seeing someone on the street wearing a barrette or bangle of mine. Because I am a one person operation and also maintain a "day job", I can only make so much and still maintain the extremely high quality that I expect with everything that I create.
